Tony brings to GISI and its partner firms the experience of having led what must be the most successful merger in our industry between a multi-regional business and a global company. Not only did Tony’s management team and company flourish regionally to lead AECOM’s Asia Pacific region, but they also had a positive effect on AECOM functioning as a global leader.
Tony joined AECOM in 2000 when his company merged with the Maunsell Group. He was then CEO for Asia and subsequently for Asia Pacific before being the Executive Chairman for the region in 2015. Under his leadership, AECOM’s businesses in Asia Pacific grew significantly from 2,500 to 15,000 staff.
A respected engineering and construction industry leader in the Asia Pacific region, Tony’s career spans more than 40 years. He brings extensive experience in developing and managing businesses in design, build, finance, operation and maintenance for the infrastructure, building and environmental markets, and in mergers and acquisitions.
In 2016, Tony retired as Chairman for Asia Pacific of AECOM and joined the GISI Board of Directors. Tony graduated from the University of Hong Kong. He is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK, fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and founding member of the Hong Kong Institution of Highway Engineers.
Tony is the founder and founding chairman of the Engineering & Construction Evangelical Fellowship HK. He is also a deacon of E.F.C.C. Spring Church. In 2019, he established the Tony Shum Education Fund at the University of Hong Kong with the objectives to enhance the teaching facilities of the Department of Civil Engineering, to support experiential learning activities of the students and to provide financial support to students with financial needs.
