Tony brings to GISI and its partner firms the experience of having led what must be the most successful merger in our industry between a multi-regional business and a global company. Not only did Tony’s management team and company flourish regionally to lead AECOM’s Asia-Pacific region, they also had a positive effect on AECOM’s role as a global leader.
Tony joined AECOM in 2000 when his company Maunsell merged with the AECOM Group. He was then CEO for Asia and subsequently for Asia-Pacific before serving as the executive chairman for the region in 2014. Under his leadership, AECOM’s businesses in Asia-Pacific grew significantly from 2,500 to 15,000 staff.
A respected engineering and construction industry leader in the Asia-Pacific region, Tony’s career spans more than 40 years. In addition to his background in mergers and acquisitions, Tony brings extensive experience in developing and managing businesses for the infrastructure, building, and environmental markets.
In 2016, Tony retired as chairman of AECOM Asia-Pacific and joined the GISI Board of Directors. Tony graduated from the University of Hong Kong. He is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK, a fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and a founding member of the Hong Kong Institution of Highway Engineers.
Tony is the founder and founding chairman of the Engineering & Construction Evangelical Fellowship HK. He is also a deacon of E.F.C.C. Spring Church. In 2019, he established the Tony Shum Education Fund at the University of Hong Kong with the objectives to enhance the teaching facilities of the Department of Civil Engineering, to support experiential learning activities, and to provide financial support to students with financial needs.
