CEO, GISI ASIA
Alex is responsible for GISI’s activities in Asia and a member of the GISI Asia’s Board.
Prior to joining GISI, Alex was the Executive Director (Engineering & Technology) of the Airport Authority Hong Kong from 2017 to early 2020. In addition to delivering annual capital work investment of about US$1 billion and maintenance expenditure of US$150 million, he was responsible for applying innovation and technology to advance Hong Kong International Airport’s smart airport vision.
Some notable innovations Alex brought into practice include digital twin, big data analytics, internet of things, enterprise 5G network and autonomous vehicles. His autonomous Electric Tractor project put HK International Airport as the world first’s airport with driverless vehicles in full operation.
Before joining the Airport Authority, he was the Chief Executive of AECOM Greater China, responsible for strategic growth and operation of AECOM’s business in Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan with a staff of over 7,000 people. During his 20 years with AECOM, Alex led his teams to successfully complete various strategic mega projects in Asia. He also chaired various committees on risk mitigation and safety.
Alex was a council member of HK’s Construction Industry Council (CIC) and Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was the Chairman of Association of Consulting Engineers in Hong Kong, Institute of Water and Environment Management (Hong Kong Branch), CIC Task Force on Site Supervision Practices and Hong Kong University Engineering Alumni Association. He also served in the departmental advisory committees for universities including University of HK and HK University of Science and Technology.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering (with Distinction) from the Imperial College, London. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
